This exhibit explores the relationships Manitobans have with spring. But why snakes? The largest congregation of garter snakes in the world lives in Manitoba. Every spring, over 50,000 garter snakes congregate at the Narcisse Nature Preserve near Winnipeg. However, snakes have not always been respected and too many have become handbags and shoes. The Costume Museum of Canada would like to promote a public awareness concept to visitors; that we have evolved as a society and can now see snakeskin as a “pattern” rather the result of taking a life.
Guided tours will run casually throughout the day. No registration required!
