Alloway and Champion Arch, Israel Asper Way

May 30th, 2026 & May 31st, 2026
Saturday: 2:00pm
Sunday: 2:00pm

What was life like for people in Winnipeg 100 years ago? This city was quite different back then and had some major waves in growth. From being the “Gateway to the West” and “Chicago of the North” to the present day, Winnipeg’s foundations have been shaped by classism, inequality, and histories both forgotten and overlooked.

This 60-minute walking tour of downtown explores Winnipeg’s roots and foundations, from periods of major growth to the present day. Join us on Poverty and Prosperity to hear stories of the city and learn how Winnipeg became the city it is today.

Guided walking tours will start at 2:00pm on both days, beginning at the Alloway and Champion Arch (located at The Forks, between Israel Asper Way and Via Rail/Union Station at 123 Main Street) and finishing at Dalnavert Museum (61 Carlton Street). Tours will be approximately 60 minutes in length with a maximum of 15 guests. Registration is required! Registration opens Saturday, May 23rd at noon through the link that will be provided below.

Outdoor events will be cancelled in the case of heavy rain or thunderstorms. Weather related cancellations will NOT be posted.
